Peter Salinger
EA, Former IRS Revenue Officer and IRS Appeals Settlement Officer
Peter embarked on his IRS journey in 1986 as a Revenue Officer in New York City, assisting taxpayers with outstanding balances and non-filing concerns. By the end of five years, he climbed the ranks to become a Revenue Officer Manager, overseeing up to fifteen employees and leading specialized training and Offer in Compromise groups. His commendable leadership soon earned him a promotion as a Collection Branch Chief, managing around seventy-five personnel.
In 2001, Peter transitioned to the Tampa, Florida IRS office, marking his tenure as the inaugural Appeals Settlement Officer there. With a keen focus on various cases, from collection due processes to penalty appeals, Peter developed a reputation as the go-to expert for offer in compromise, reviewing thousands of offers throughout his career.
Educationally, Peter has spearheaded several training sessions for the IRS, ranging from introductory programs for new hires to advanced techniques in collection and compromise investigations. His role expanded to providing continuous professional education and collaborating on international outreach efforts, even crafting some course materials himself. Representing the IRS, Peter engaged with CPAs, attorneys, and international tax officials, enlightening them about the IRS’s collection methodologies.
Dedicated to achieving optimal resolutions for clients using his in-depth IRS know-how, Peter balances his professional life with personal passions like baseball and hockey. Committed to his community, he serves as the Missions and Outreach coordinator for his church, where his wife holds the esteemed position of Senior Pastor. Peter retired from his illustrious IRS career in January 2020.
